American Pie is launched!
Some 30 people - including both expat and Dutch media - celebrated the March 28 launch of American Pie at Art Vine, fine art and wine gallery, on Keizersgracht in Amsterdam. Hosted by American expat entrepreneur Charles Rubenacker, who recently relocated here from Colorado, the event offered a taste of a wide array of themed dinner events to come, in line with his goal to bring Americana and related entertainment and topics to the Netherlands.
The 'festive chic' evening featured two of Rubenacker's signature products - a selection of gourmet pizzas with delectable and unusual toppings, such as a seafood pizza with cockles, wild smoked Alaskan salmon, red mullet with fresh herbs and a fish font sauce; a duck and goose liver pizza with brie and diverse grilled veggies; a Wagyu beef pizza with Kobe beef carpaccio, ruccola, winter truffles and mushroom sauce; and the classic Margarita pizza with tomato, mozzarella and fresh herbs.
The perfect ending to the meal included a classic American dessert - pumpkin pie, both traditional and with pecans, as well as strawberries dipped in Rubenacker's favorite Puccini chocolate (a shop he frequents in Amsterdam). A cheese plate and fine wines from the Art Vine cave (including a complimentary glass of Prosecco) rounded off the night. Live guitar music was also featured.
The American Pie Concept
In addition to similar themed dinner events that will be held at Art Vine in the upcoming months (see schedule below), Rubenacker plans to take his venue 'on the road,' by offering private events and cooking workshops either at homes or offices, as well as for corporate business and social events. Menus and venues are entirely flexible, and "the more unusual the idea, the better," he says.
"As with most things in America, the sky is the limit. I want to bring that spirit to the Netherlands, and draw people together from both the expatriate and Dutch communities for both fun and networking."

What is American Pie?
American Pie is a brand new culinary concept: bringing Americana and related topics to the Netherlands through themed dinner events. Great food, specialty desserts, fine wines, diverse music, and occasional speakers are key to these events. American Pie is organized by American expatriate entrepreneur Charles Rubenacker, for both the 'expat' and Dutch communities throughout the Netherlands.
Where and when?
The first series of American Pie events will take place at Art Vine, a fine art and wine gallery at Keizersgracht 471 in Amsterdam, by reservation only. Individual cover charges — depending on event — will include entry, wine, food, and entertainment.
American Pie also produces in-house corporate events tailored to each company, as well as private parties and workshops at selected venues.
Products
American Pie's signature products include gourmet pizza and traditional American dessert pies based on the Rubenacker family's renowned recipes. A variety of menus may be selected according to venue, theme, and client interest.
